After wanting to be circumcised for over a decade, it finally happened today. My penis is still bandaged up. I was told by my urologist that if the bandage doesn’t fall off by Friday to take it off. I’ve taken a couple Tylenol as instructed but so far I’m feeling OK. Over the coming days I’ll post updates.

JJ, congratulations, thanks for update. Let us know how the healing goes and how you like it. What did you get high and tight or another variation?
I’m sure you feel mentally and emotionally better since it’s a done deal! No more anxiety about doing it. Glad to hear that you’ve not had to deal with any pain. I didn’t either! Take care.

As I partially got circumcised for medical reasons and covered by insurance, I couldn’t go in asking for it to be done a particular way. My urologist only does sleeve resections but it’s my understanding it produces a high and tight circumcision.

I’ve urinated fine albeit with a bit of burning which I understand is normal at first. My first night was fine, I did have a night time erection but it wasn’t too uncomfortable. I’m in a little bit of pain so I’ll take a Tylenol soon. The pain isn’t as bad as I feared. I’m waddling a bit when I walk so I’m using the furniture and walls to support myself. Overall so far so good and I know it only gets better from here!

Knowing how easy this was, I wish I got it done a lot sooner. I’m the most anxious person in the world. This was my first surgery. I encourage anybody reading this that is nervous about the procedure itself to go get it done. I’m happy that I’m young enough to still be able to enjoy my new equipment for many years to come!

Today is day 2 of my recovery. I took off the bandage a couple hours ago and I started to bleed so I applied a gauze pad with Vaseline. I’m in a bit more pain now that the bandage is removed. My penis is really swollen but yep I’m definitely circumcised. I’m looking forward to seeing what it looks like when the swelling goes down and I’m fully healed.

Today is day 3 of my recovery. My penis has shrunk because of the swelling. No more bleeding. I don’t have any bandage or gauze on it. The head is super sensitive. I don’t know if the sensitivity is here to stay but if it is, I’m going to have to switch to briefs. I took a Tylenol this morning. The burning sensation has almost gone away. I can walk a little better. It feels like somebody has flicked my penis. Regardless, my recovery is nowhere as bad as I feared.

JJ. Wow, that’s great news. Don’t worry the sensitivity of your penis head until get used to the exposure, probably a lot faster than you expect right now. Glad to hear the swelling is subsiding, that’s a win! You’re going to love it in a couple of weeks. Sounds like you’re doing everything you some caring for it. Thanks for updates.

Today is day 4 of my recovery. I had to take a couple Tylenol yesterday but once again I’ve had ingrown toenails that have hurt more. I’m walking normally. I should be able to gradually start getting back into my normal routine starting tomorrow. The swelling has gone down a bit so I’m starting to get a rough idea of what I’m going to look like when I’m fully healed and I’m excited. The swelling isn’t fun to look at and I’m feeling impatient as I wait for my body to heal so I can see the end result. There’s a tad bit of burning but everyday it substantially gets less and less. So assuming it started at 100% after my surgery I’d say depending on the day it goes down 15-20%. In other words, today the burning is still there but it’s maybe 10-15% compared to when I first urinated after my surgery.

I don’t know about the other men on these forums, but I’m in shock that I’m finally circumcised. This is something I’ve wanted so badly since I first became sexually active in my late teens and I never thought it would happen. Every morning since my surgery I’ve woken up going “I can’t believe I’m circumcised.” As my friend pointed it, the foreskin will never grow back so this is permanent. But I still think it’s going to take time to adjust psychologically. While I’ve always wanted to be circumcised and hated being uncircumcised, I’ve had foreskin for the past 30 years. I’m just not used to seeing my penis without foreskin. Nonetheless, I’m so happy I finally went ahead with it.

My biggest challenge has been having erections at night. I haven’t been watching porn or stimulating myself but I’ve woken up several times in the middle of the night because of erections. In all honesty, it’s been 1 week since I’ve pleasured myself which is the longest I’ve gone since high school. I’m emptying my bladder before going to bed and lying on my side with my legs closer to my chest. Did anybody on the boards have issues with erections while they were healing? Its caused me to bleed.

Also, there’s these big bumps forming underneath the head of my penis I guess where the stitches are. Is this normal?

My briefs are too tight and my boxers are too lose. Any suggestions?

JJ…..”big bumps”! I’m not sure what big means? Pictures would help. If inflamed you need to see doctor for possible infection.
Night time erections were a little troubling for me, actually split open a small place in the healing incision. But I put a steri strip, medical closure tape on it to close and everything was fine.
I understand the need to release, pleasure yourself as you say. That’s a little more difficult at this early stage of healing but not impossible.

I shouldn’t call them big bumps but they looks like pimples all around where the dissolvable stitches are. I had pain the first few days of my recovery, it went away, but now I’m having pain again. I’ve put some vaseline around the wound and that seems to be helping. The head is no longer bruised. I’m still swollen though it’s my understanding it can take a few weeks to go down.

I don’t think the erections are helping my recovery but it is what it is. I’ll continue to apply vaseline and take it day by day.

JJ, based on you description the “bumps” are pretty normal, as long as they’re not inflamed an or oozing pus! Sure sign of infection! Regarding swelling, everyone heals a little differently, so how long varies. I had very little swelling so I can’t advise based on personal experience!
I would suggest pointing your penis up and wear tight briefs to hold in place. This would allow natural drainage of the fluids in the swollen tissues? Gravity works against you if it’s hanging down! Also, icing with cold compress or bag of frozen peas helps swelling.
There are drugs that can deal with erections but that requires doctor visit for prescription. Thanks for telling what you’re experiencing. It will be better soon.

So my incision is all crusty and there’s thick pus coming from the wound. I called my family doctor who told me to call my urologist but that I should go to the ER if I couldn’t get ahold of him. I called my urologist who told me to go to the ER. The ER doctor examined me and yep the incision is infected so I’ll be on antibiotics for the next 10 days. I’m in a lot more pain now than I was the first several days after my surgery.

Oh, I’m glad you went to ER. Of course the infection can contribute to the pain. But you’re on the right track with the antibiotic, you should start seeing improvement soon. Keep posting how you’re doing.

This morning I woke up nauseous from the antibiotics but I’m feeling much, much better. The pain is now like a 1/10 compared to a 7/10 24 hours ago. I have to take the antibiotics for the next 10 days so hopefully what I was feeling this week was a hiccup and the worst I’ll feel as part of the surgery and recovery.

So I’ve had yet another complication. I shave in the buff (I’m pretty sure most men do after their shower) and somehow between the time I got from my bathroom to my bedroom to get dressed there was blood running down my leg and a pool at my feet. I soaked a few gauze pads. I applied pressure for about 10 minutes and the bleeding stopped. This was a complication I didn’t need. The swelling continues to go down and I like what I see.

**For any men questioning whether or not to be circumcised. Please don’t be turned off by my experience. It could be way worse and from what I’ve read on here, what I’m going through isn’t common either. These complications don’t make me regret being circumcised. I know once I’m healed I won’t have to deal with this kind of thing.**

Now that the swelling has gone and the stitches are slowly coming out, I can confirm my cut was low and tight. I would have preferred high and tight but because I’m a grower the urologist had to go low and tight. I’m a couple days shy of 2 weeks into my recovery. I haven’t seen myself erect yet despite having erections in the middle of the night so I can’t wait to see what it looks and feels like in the coming weeks.

There’s some scabs where the stitches are and they’re gradually dissolving.

I very much want to be circumcised as I have a very long foreskin and actually gets in the way alot for my zipper and when my girlfriend and I are making love.any suggestions on how to start the process of where and how I can get my foreskin circumcised would be very much appreciated. Christian, where do you live? First step, go see doctor, preferably a urologist. If you don’t have some medical condition that suggests circumcision to resolve then you will likely have to pay out of pocket for the procedure. Unless you’re in a country that has national health insurance and I’m not sure how that works regarding elective surgery.
Never the less, step one in either case see doctor.
All the best to you on this journey.

It’s been 16 days since my surgery and my penis is doing fine. The dissolvable stitches appear to almost be out. There’s still a scab underneath my penis which I won’t touch. I’m not a doctor but I’m pretty sure the infection is gone but nonetheless I’m taking the rest of the antibiotics as directed. Having erections no longer hurts. This is the longest I’ve gone without sex or masterbating since I was a teenager. If I hadn’t had a full cardiac exam 2 months ago, I’d be afraid of having a heart attack because my heart races while having erotic thoughts and watching porn. I would do anything to ejaculate right about now. I tried gently masterbating a couple days ago but I’m still too tender. I’ve read you can become sexually active after 3 weeks though my urologist told me to wait 4 weeks so I’ll see how I feel.

Today is day 17 since my surgery and I went against my doctor’s advice and masterbated because I feared having a heart attack if I didn’t. Most of the stitches have dissolved but there’s still a couple. I used a ton of lube and I told myself I would stop if there was the slightest sign of blood which there wasn’t. It was less fun because I kept having to check to see if I was bleeding or pulled a stitch. With that being said, I’m now sore and tender. I’ll try to wait until I’m fully healed in the next couple of weeks.

There is less sensitivity but like others have said on here you make up for that because it almost feel as if it’s coming from other places. There’s less elasticity which is interesting. I feel like this is a new car. It’s new and exciting but after a while it’ll wear off.

In my opinion, like anything else in this world I think there are pros and cons to being circumised or not being circumcised. I’m happy with my decision and beyond proud to now be circumcised but I’m also happy to have both perspectives.

I know for me getting circumcised as an adult was the best thing I’ve ever done for myself from a physical standpoint. Like you I had a rather long foreskin I guess, it hung over the top of my penis when flaccid, if I let it. However, I kept my foreskin retracted all of the time or as much as it would stay back. I had to adjust several times a days. But you and your girlfriend are going to be pleased. In what country do you live?

hi,everybody, for those guys not circ. if you can easily retract foreskin then use baby powder to dry up the headd and shaft. for those guys just being cut.
then get saltpeter email online order.. do not mix or drink too much. And use the baby powder to lower sensitivity, I think some urologist (s) play bad tricks on guys because they should hand out anti-erections pills.

So I know this is weird a girl reading your personal posts but im about to be a mom of a boy i was doing research on why i should and shouldn’t get my son circumcised. I’m getting told if i do circumcise him that ill be a bad mom. If you see this can you please answer these questions?

      1. Would you have wished your parents gotten you circumcised when you were younger so you didn’t remember the pain/infections and all that?
      2. Knowing what you know now would you circumcise your son?
      3. Did any of you have problems with not being circumcised? (like i know the long foreskin part was one)
      4. Did you ever get rejected by a girl just because you weren’t circumcised? (oral or sex) Did you ever get made fun of for it?
      5. Does sex feel feel better being circumcised?

Again, sorry for reading your personal stuff im just a concerned mom wanting to do right by my unborn son. Thank you.

        Brooke,

I need to keep this forum on topic, which is specifically voluntary adult circumcision, so I can’t encourage discussing this here. However, I think it’s pretty easy to sum up from my perspective:

        1. My life was quite a bit harder, emotionally, as a result of growing up uncircumcised.
        2. I don’t regret that my parents did not decide on my behalf, but I do regret not deciding for myself to do it sooner.

Fundamentally the role of a parent is to make permanent decisions on behalf of their child that the child would never make themselves; this extends everywhere from literacy to vaccination to religion.

        Brooke,

        1. Yes, absolutely wish I was from birth. Although now I can say how I want it done.
        2. Had both sons circumcised.
        3. No major problem, although I keep it retracted 99% of the time for over 20 years. I had an occasion infection, treated with antifungals, and it does often get irritated and red during sex (the foreskin). Sometimes a little swollen, but no phimosis/paraphimosis. It’s just more of a nuisance. Oh yeah, frenulum used to be super tight and hurt a lot. Then I did a tying-off procedure about 7 years ago, giving it 2 extra inches (5cm) of play.
        4. No, never rejected by a girlfriend. They were always nice about it, normally neutral at best. Still always worried when I met someone new…
        5. Will find out soon. Circumcision date is in 2 weeks, yay!!! Then healing, then testing the new tool. I imagine it will be pretty good and less of a hassle holding my foreskin back during sex.

This website is for men who are choosing to be circumcised as adults. I was circumcised as a baby and I am very glad that my parents decided to have me done, even though it’s fairly unusual in England (where I’m from). It has never been a disadvantage and I was never bullied at school about it (admittedly I did go to a private school in London where it was quite common for boys to be circumcised). I have occasionally been asked if I’m Jewish (which I’m not), but only out of curiosity and I have huge respect for Judaism anyway. I know men who were circumcised as adults; they found the operation surprisingly easy but the 4-6 week recovery rather frustrating but well worthwhile for the long term benefits. I would encourage all men to get it done.

Honestly the biggest obstacle for a lot of guys is the ‘change’- it took me a few months before I wasn’t acutely aware of things being ‘different’.

      To answer the questions:

1- I never really had these problems, but being cut was a big plus for me.
2- Yes, part of parenting is applying life experience for your child’s benefit.
3- With the glans partially covered, and the amount of coverage changing, there’s always going to be trapped moisture. That can lead to problems on its own, but it also adds to friction between the penis head and fabric, especially jeans or similar.
4- No, but a few girls expressed interest in the topic of circumcision, before and since my op. They have universally been happy to hear/find out I was cut.
5- Yes, but things change from what you’re used to if you’re done as an adult.

2.Knowing what I know now, I absolutely would have my son circumcised.

      1. Yes
      3. Physically, the skin adhering to the glans from lack of hygiene. The frenulum almost tearing during sex… Painful. The tender unexposed glans took some time to adjust to something better. Emotionally, being the only kid in my age group uncircumcised wasnt fun.
      4. No but could tell it wasnt preferred and oral sex was off the table. Washing isnt enough to keep the odor away for very long. Now my partner doesnt hesitate, for the most part. Sex is much more spontaneous and varied.
      5. At least as enjoyable, if not more.

At 43 I had to get a circumcision. Everything g seems to be healing properly, as I been babying it and cleaning often and applying polysporin. My question is, I’m a grower not a shower. It’s been 3 weeks and I’m worried it won’t go back to the size it gets to when fully erect. It’s really freaking me out. My wife says it will be fine, Dr said pre op that all should be the same, again I’m 3 weeks in and concerned and would appreciate hearing from others and there experience with this sensitive issue and question. I appreciate any input. Thanks

You will be fine. I was circumcised at 39, a grower too and it still grew to the same size as before! To me it looks bigger with no foreskin.
You will love it once fully healed and you get it hard. Love it!
      All the best to you.

        Bob,

Having it done for multiple reasons.
Like the way it feels retracted for over 20 years.
At this point it actually feels weird to cover my glans.
Love the feeling of the coronal ridge against my pants. Much more arousing bare than when it’s covered up and hiding under my useless foreskin.
Foreskin often gets irritated during sex.

        Getting circumcised in 2 weeks.
Will update you on whether or not it was worth it.
Have a strong suspicion it will be more than worth it and looooong overdue.

Worth it? Well, it’s not like from either a hygiene or pleasure point of view it is a dramatic change for better or worse. It’s slightly easier to clean, but only by a few seconds. Pleasure is different – some things are easier now (rubbing glans directly, which I generally prefer), some things are more awkward (moving shaft skin, which once in a while will just get the notion to try even though doesn’t really work now). So it depends which form of stimulation I happen to be in the mood for as to whether things feel better, or slightly frustrating. Even that can feel good though if you know what I mean!

Didn’t have any medical reasons, everything worked fine just had wondered for years what it would feel like without a foreskin. If hadn’t got done would still be wondering – retraction only works to a certain extent, so absolutely happy that I had it done.

I was circumcised at birth so I have no experience of what it is like to have a foreskin. That said, almost every woman I have had sex with preferred men to be circumcised (and not just saying that to please me) – even though only a minority of British men have had it done. My fiancée greatly prefers it.

Hey guys I’ve wanted to get circumcised for years. Combination or medical and aesthetic reasons. I’m about 9 inches erect and although the foreskin retracts easily it doesn’t allow my penis to fully extend due to recurring issues with frenulum. Sex is almost always painful and I’ve had small cuts more times than I can remember now. Seems like it’s caused scar tissue to build up making it less flexible then before. I never thought much of it but I can tell now I would get balanitis and infections mostly on my glans. How much much masturbation change for you guys. I’m 32 and on top of sex with wife I have to admit I “release” my own tension anywhere from 2-7 times a day. I’m more of a shower I guess, or maybe not I’m around 5-5.5 flaccid and right around 9 erect. The appearance of my penis flaccid is a huge motivation aside from all the other issues that are constantly there for getting it done. I grew up the only one of all my friends not circumcised and playing sports my entire life meant showering around other guys. It would give me so much anxiety to have it out or when first showing it to my gf. I’m set on doing it just could really use some good advice on some of my rambling questions. Thank you guys in advance I’m leaning towards high and tight or high and medium while for sure getting the frenulum removed. My wife said she is most concerned about me not getting an erection for the period of time after the surgery. I don’t think I’ve gone more than a couple of days since puberty without masturbating let alone not getting hard. Erections happen all the time without even thinking about it

Get it done, you will not regret it. My fiancée greatly prefers that I’m circumcised. I was done at birth, but I’m told that the healing process of 4-6 weeks for an adult man is frustrating but well worthwhile for the long term benefits.

      Hi Hanmomer,
Sounds like you have many of the same reasons for getting it done and life experiences that I’ve had. The anxiety in the shower room or showing it to a new GF often played a factor for me. I also had a very short frenulum that hurt when I pulled back my foreskin, but never tore. I ended up seeing a forum on tying the frenulum. As a nurse I had access to good sutures, sterilizing agents and topical lidocaine. It took two attempts, but the second was very successful. I gained about 2 inches of play in the frenulum. Now the foreskin retracts nicely and far back before causing the glans to curve down. I’m about 5″ and grow to 6.5″, so not as much as you.
      https://www.male-initiation.net/library/gallery/frenuloplasty/frenulum_tying.html
I’ve also kept my foreskin retracted for over 25 years now. I prefer the dried out glans rubbing agains my shorts and pulling the foreskin back tight for sex and masturbation. I’m guessing it feels much like a circumcised penis at this point.
About 2 months ago I brought up the discussion again with my GF as the foreskin was getting irritated often when we had sex. I also sweat a lot on my indoor bike trainer in the winter months causing more inflammation. Finally found a urologist in my network who does Adult Circumcision. Getting it done in 9 days. I’ll keep you posted, if interested, on how it went.
Hoping he’ll do it moderately high and tight and also remove the remainder of the frenulum to tidy things up underneath. I’ve found neither the frenulum nor the foreskin themselves give me much pleasure. Good luck with your decision, hope you are able to get it done too.
      Mine’s coming off April 13th.

I got cut back in early october in the uk for largely personal aesthetic and hygiene reasons and I’ve not regretted it for one moment. Some painful erections early on for sure but the outcome is so good and feels and looks so much better that there’s really no reason not to go ahead with it. I just should have done it sooner.

TOR, Hanmomer, April 13, coming up. This is the correct way, for circumcision, revision, frenulum removal etc. Do it with qualified urologist or other MD. No shame or embarrassment. Hanmomer , I required MC, but I agree. In gym, I was the ONLY guy not circumcised. All my friends of color, religions that perform it, even my cousins. I mean EVERYONE. I felt as you socially awkward, was looked at a lot, with “ remarks). This should also not be embarrassing. I did 3 circle jerks in my lifetime. One uncircumcised, 2 circumcised. The last 2, I felt normal. When everyone was talking about ( as teens do) masturbation, I could not relate. After, showering after martial arts( all circumcised) I fit in finally. I get it. Good luck. I don’t think you will regret it. No one deserves pain. You did not mention CI index. I was a 10 prior to circumcision, now a 1, very low, very tight & I am fine years later. Hope I helped. Good luck. Post after if you choose, some of occasionally check back to this site devoted to us.

Thank you guys for all the advice. I’ll admit my wife actually doesn’t mind mine as is and I’ve had to talk her into it. She says she likes how my glans feels orally and sexually. She worries my glans will dry out and become crusty?? Sorry just relaying what she said. I don’t have a lot of extra foreskin so it doesn’t usually cover my glans unless it’s super cold out or something along those lines. The frenulum definitely got worse with time as I never had the curving forward that happens now. It always bent a little to the left but the frenulum has made it worse in both directions.

Tor, I’ll look into your recommendation, I’ll admit doing anything to my penis myself is a bit scary but that would help alot. It honestly hurts every single time I have sex now as a full erection causes me to not have a lot of slack and makes it feel like it’s going to tear the entire time. What advice can yall give me on the type of circumcision method to use and also is there any reason to worry about high and tight taking too much off? Is there a way to keep more inner foreskin and still have it done high? Not sure if I’m making sense. Lastly, I didn’t think I was a grower since I always had a lot bigger than every one around me when flaccid but I could use some advice on what yall think about guys with a little more length taking too much skin off and losing size or having uncomfortable erections. I’m anywhere from 5-6 inches flaccid typically 5 1/2 or so flaccid and a little over 9 erect. I feel like I should have more length erect but idk if it’s due to frenulum being insanely tight or something else that doesn’t allow my penis to fully extend causing it to have a curve when hard. Not anything crazy but I know the frenulum is part of the problem. Can we provide pictures or is that not allowed? I think that would help me convey my current issues more clearly

Glans will definitely dry out, but after it does, it won’t be crusty. It will be quite soft.

        > How much much masturbation change for you guys.
I masturbate more or less the same amount as before which is once every 1 or 2 days – or pretty much never if I’m having sex. Any reduction I’d put down to being a few years older, and not having as much time to play around with!

How it works changes a lot though. Moving skin with a tight cut is pretty much impossible, if I do want to then a little movement can be achieved by raising my knees up, but it’s a very different feeling from before – and the glans isn’t being stimulated.

More usually I slide my hand dry over the length of the penis. The speed and time taken is about the same time as previously, but if I do happen to try more than once a day (or for much longer than 5 minutes or so) then it results in soreness from chafing.

So if you’re used to masturbating 2-7 times a day you will almost certainly be better off using lube – I use that for a bit of variety sometimes anyway. Again you slide the hand up and down but much slower than you probably did uncut (more similar to thrusting speed in sex, which it feels more like too) – overall time still about the same though as the glans tends to pick up sensations much more.

        > She worries my glans will dry out and become crusty??
In the week or so after circumcision the glans can become a bit crusty/peeling if it’s normally been covered before, but that only lasts a few days, after which the texture changes slightly. It’s still soft but not as smooth as before and no longer has a glossy appearance as there are slight wrinkles in it. It will be dry – but only to the same extent as a glans on an uncut penis which has been left with the foreskin retracted for 10 minutes or so.

Only other time you get some crustiness is if a bit of semen dries on the glans if you’ve fallen asleep after sexual activity…

        > I don’t have a lot of extra foreskin so it doesn’t usually cover my glans unless it’s super cold out or something along those lines.
If you mean that a small area around the meatus is usually uncovered then that’s within fairly normal ranges for foreskins. If the foreskin bunches up below the glans naturally then it’s already pretty short, and your glans will already have completely dried out and got the circumcised texture.

        > What advice can yall give me on the type of circumcision method to use and also is there any reason to worry about high and tight taking too much off?
High and tight means keeping a reasonable amount of inner foreskin (say an inch give or take) and then removing enough of the remaining inner foreskin and shaft skin to ensure that skin movement when erect is pretty much not possible. You’re removing roughly the same amount of skin as in a low and tight, you’re just left with more sensitive former inner foreskin

As it’s designed to be tight if a little too much is taken off then that will cause issues for a little while until the skin stretches somewhat. With a competent practitioner that shouldn’t be an issue though. Other than any slight foreskin overhang being lost, there shouldn’t be a reduction in penis length from circumcision. From the sounds of it you don’t have an overhang anyway so I really wouldn’t worry about it.

Regarding method, it really doesn’t make a huge deal of difference – if you’ve decided on high and tight then the question will be are you removing the frenulum (probably yes), and do you want the scar line to match the outline of the glans and thus have a v shape where it gets closer where the frenulum is or used to be. Clamp methods will not result in a v shape, freehand gives a choice. Glue, if possible may result in less likelihood of stitches getting caught.

        > I’m anywhere from 5-6 inches flaccid typically 5 1/2 or so flaccid and a little over 9 erect.
To me this is more ‘grower’ than ‘shower’ as your length is almost doubling. If you’re 9 inches erect that would tend to suggest there’s not really anything holding it back that’s for sure! However that difference will create a bit of an aesthetic issue with getting cut – if you get a tight cut when erect there will still probably be plenty of loose, folded skin when flaccid as the best part of 4 inches of skin has to go somewhere!

Robert I know the feeling. I’ve always been very grateful for the size of it but I just felt like a freak because it was alot bigger but it just looked so different. And I consider my self as straight but even I think a circumcised penis looks alot better. Plus I’ve always been been athlete and sweat and or any type of moisture just causes problems down there. Oral was always very anxiety driven for me. Plus I had so much sensation down there that I felt like it was harder to finish not easier. It was like sensory over load and made it hard to just relax and enjoy it. The closest thing I can compare it to is having sex or receiving oral immediately after having finished. Also as yall may know using condoms as an uncircumcised man is a nightmare. Way too many extenuating factors to allow me to just enjoy the experience. Made me feel so neurotic about the whole thing

      (Almost) Finally got Circumcised

Well guys (and any gals), it’s t-minus 5 days. All the pre-op paperwork and checkup is done. Just counting down now and getting both a little nervous and excited at the same time.
I’m glad I’ve kept my foreskin retracted for so long. My urologist said I would have no issue with the sensitivity that many have after circumcision. The glans is very dry already. I enjoy the feeling against my boxers.
It’s good to read all the posts, hearing the experiences and encouragement from others.

Just a question to others who have kept their foreskin retracted pre-circumcision…
Did it feel weird to cover up your glans with the foreskin?
Every time I pull my foreskin forward, it only lasts, at most about 1/2 an hour. It just doesn’t feel right anymore and I have to retract it again to where it belongs – BEHIND the glans. So glad I’m getting the snip!

Tor best of luck man glad you’re almost there. Hopefully not too far behind you I’m ready to set it up. Are there any Texas people on here that have someone they recommend and is pricing pretty consistent? I ask because I think insurance would most likely cover mine but I like the idea of choosing my own doctor especially one that approaches it looks in mind more so than a doctor that strictly approaches it as a medical procedure meant to fix an issue.

Reuben thank you for the detailed response that helps alot. I feel dialed in to what I want out of the procedure and now it’s just a matter of setting the appointment and getting it done. How long did it take for you guys thay have had it done from the time you set it up to when they could see you to get it done?

      Hankomer,
      Thanks for the well-wishes.
For me it’s gone relatively quickly. I wish I had gotten up the courage to start sooner to get it done further away from summer and bike racing season.

Feb 21 made the initial call to set up appointment with urologist (I had researched in my insurance network and found two that specialized in adult circumcision). At first they could only find a summer appointment, but then they called back and…

March 10: visit with urologist. Very friendly and put me at ease. Saw that I had irritation and inflammation when my foreskin was pulled back all the way. He had to officially go through his spiel of options. Since I have already tried creams with success, but it keeps reoccurring, more now over the winter, he recommended circumcision. (My first choice anyway!)
He went through pros/cons, risks of surgery, I signed the consent forms. Let’s get this done!

April 5: Pre-op appointment. A little nervous since I had never mentioned it to my primary care provider, a female APRN. She was super nice about it though and totally understood.

April 13: that’s the date. Haven’t had the conversation with him yet, but hope I can get him to do moderately high and tight, and remove the remainder of frenulum.

So that’s that, a little less than 2 months since the initial call
      More to come…

200 euros for frenulum removal in Dublin at the original clinic where I had the circumcision in 2014.

Should of had it removed on the day but I think this is a good deal to get rid of a triangular tag of frenulum.

Going ahead with it in June.

Tor, best of luck. MC as adult, CI 10, glans, meatus, never was visible as grower. Precancerous lesion forced me into very low, very tight circumcision. I suggest what you are going for-high & tight or a little loose. Had so many problems, extremely painful thick frenulum, removed. Best thing that I did. Sex, masturbation was miserable. I did try pulling foreskin back, it would roll over on itself on coronal ridge, could not feel being inside wife. Our sex life improved 100%, never regretted it. Get some good water based lubricant. I cannot pull anything up to even coronal ridge. Don’t miss it at all. Wishing rapid healing, go easy. 42 days, is most recommended, difficult to try, especially after just being married.

Just lay back and let the good doctor do their work. Relax and enjoy it. Be clear that you want a tight circumcision with the scar placed a couple cm back from the corona. Here’s my advice, research it well. know what style you want and also take a few pictures to show to the doctor what you want the outcome to be, don’t take any chances. My friend did not do this and he had to get a second circumcision a year later. That could have been avoided. Plus he paid for both out of pocket! Now he’s fine though with no regrets. But he was frustrated for a while after the first op because women had asked him why he was never circumcised because they cut too little skin.

Well, now I officially belong under the heading of this forum.
About 3-1/2 hours ago the foreskin came off.
Or one could say, “glad to be foreskin free!”
In pre-op I did have another conversation with my urologist about the frenulum, scar line and tightness. He definitely said he’d do the frenulum. He did warn me about tightness, but said he’d try to respect my wishes. He said it’s always safer to go a little less than a little too much. His standard cut line is 1.5cm behind the glans as he doesn’t like to go too close to the head. I’m fine with that.
It went amazingly well,…so far. All the nurses and staff were amazing and put me at ease.
Some of them had worked on floors where I had worked in the main hospital years ago, so we had interesting stories to exchange. They did use general anesthesia. I enjoyed my deep sleep and was okay with that since we had our style conversation in pre-op. I left it in his skilled surgical hands.
My GF was also amazing and supportive through the whole process. I look forward to repaying her in about 6 weeks.
More to come in the next days after the bandage comes off…
Thanks again for all of your input and support!

      Scar Gels?

A few last comments for the night. I’m now almost 10 hrs post-op and still no pain down below. The most annoying thing for me right now is my sore throat, likely from the airway tube from anesthesia. I’m about to take my pain medicine, more prophylactically than anything else. Just hoping to sleep well through the night.

For those who’ve been through this, what are your thoughts or recommendations
on Scar gels? Best brands? When/how often to use, etc.?

I saw one at CVS in a roll-on bottle. The graphic on the box literally looked like my bandaged up penis with just the tip sticking out! 😂

You probably won’t need scar gel and it’s not worth getting hung up on it IMHO. I’d say evidently most heal OK without and logically those that do use it wouldn’t know if it made a difference.

Congratulations Tor. Glad it went well. Don’t worry about using commercial scar gels or anything for at least a couple weeks, then if you want to use a vitamin E ointment throughout the second half of your healing phase then that might be of some benefit. But for the first two weeks, don’t apply anything or you risk infection. If you want the scar to heal the best it can, then absolutely do not pull your stitches or you’ll have permanent white track marks all the way around. I’m assuming here that he used stitches and not skin glue to bring the two cut edges together?

I have tried to keep the scar moist, not wet, later on used a clear plaster, that kept moisture nice under control. I ended up with a very nice smooth, and clean cut. For me it worked.

More comfortable now after a shower, bacitracin applied, and fresh clothes.
Haven’t dared to tug on it yet, but he did say the incision was about 1cm behind the glans.
Time to just let him heal first.
From the earlier comments, It doesn’t look like I’ll bother with scar gel. The stitches need to come out first anyway.

The scar 1cm behind the corona, sounds perfect. Is it 1cm back all the way around? I ended up with more left on the underside, probably due to the angle that the mogen clamp was applied. I think this was to leave me some skin movement so i could continue to masturbate easily given my young age. I guess this is what the doctor meant when he said “dont worry, i will be kind, given your age”. I was still surprised by how tight it was though, but it looks great. During my follow up appointment, i asked the nurse to rate it out of 10 compared to all the others she’d seen post-op and she gave it a 7. Hopefully yours is a 10!

TOR, congratulations, welcome to cub & “ safe zone. Not MD,RN, circumcised for many medical reasons. 1.5 cm is standard.Assisted in many. You will repay GF time & again. There were no scar gels in my time. Check with MD, we all heal differently. Please follow MD advice. Extremely difficult to wait, please try 5-6 weeks (42 day) DO NOT MASTURBATE. Be it sutures, dermabond, ZSR ETC, you do not want wound to open. If so, penis very vascular, heals well. Total scar healing 6 months to year for collagen formation, scar will shrink & tighgten. I am pretty sure you will be pleased. Wishing rapid healing, wear what feels best. If MD agrees, ice, or refocus for nocturnal erections. Thx for sharing. As well as all those above wishing you well & support

TOR, read latest post. Depending on and, vicyrl( purple or white, may have been used or another absorbable monofilament suture. PKEASE, do NOT PICK them out. Many dissolve by enzymatic breakdown. The “ railroad tracks” tracks mentioned, if you have any? Will fill in over time( almost always) as long as done properly by MD & no extreme tension. WAIT,WAIT. Most will fall off in shower ( when allowed 10-14 days) I suggest turning back towards shower as you will be extremely sensitive. Warm regards. Keep someone in loop, may check back.

Robert M. Thanks for all the pointers. These are great and fall in line with what the MD and nurses have told me. I too am an RN, so will pretty much follow proper medical advice. I talked with my nurse navigator (who has checked in with me on the phone) yesterday. She told me the same about the sutures, bioabsorbable, take about 10-14 days to absorb/fall out. She told me not to pull them out, just let them do their thing.
I’m doing okay this morning. No narcotics needed, just a little Motrin and Tylenol, on a rotating basis. No bad pain though, just a bit raw.
Looks pretty good from what I can see so far. At least there’s no foreskin bunched up or covering anything! :-)

Tor-sounds like you as (RN) know what to do.Have assisted as stated in many child, adolescent, adult circumcisions. All types ( neonatal as well) . Worked with outstanding Urology/Plastic/General in 1000+ bed hospital. For adults mostly sleeve resection, dorsal slit etc. I have never seen anything other than absorbable, sutures used. Mine came out 12-14 days. With newer types, don’t see chronic used much. Size of suture may vary, usually 3-0. THEY will fall out, most as stated by enzymatic breakdown. It was a VERY difficult wait as I had only been Marty’s few months at time. Lying next to my wife, whew!! I think it was ~ 5 weeks. Go gently first time. Cisgender male, yet ally of LGBTQ+. Wear condom if not monogamous. If single go easy. As stated full granulation by primary intention will be fine. If wound dehiscence, secondary & that depends where, your age, preconditions. It truly saved my life as I had precancerous lesion. It truly saved our sex life, 100% positive. My scar healed to a very thin brown line( Caucasian ), knit tightly 8+ months, others may be more. Scar shrinkage occurs as collagen fills in. Wear what feels comfortable to YOU. Many wonderful people here. Masturbation WILL change, as ( depending)style, how tight. Sounds like you will be fine. If bandage( did a lot of wound care in community health). If dressing, gently moisten to pull away so sutures don’t get stuck in ? gauze. I took dressing off day 2. Triple antibiotic a few days. Follow MD. You sound smart, know the drill. Many might say ice( cumbersome) Bag of iced peas may help( use per MD) only for nocturnal erections. I then let air get to wound as much as possible. Will try to check tomorrow or next day. Wishing you best, rapid heat. SEX will be awesome, regards

      Post-op Day 5 update:
Things are feeling somewhat better today. I’ve only taken 400mg Ibuprofen all day. Kept up with showers, careful cleaning and bacitracin ointment on the sutures. The last three days I’ve worn tight briefs that keep my penis pointing up. That seems to be helping and the general swelling has gone down quite a bit, except between the stitches and the corona. That seems to be where most of the swelling is, on the last little vestige of inner foreskin.

The meatus seemed to be the most sensitive part. I put a small dab of topical lidocaine on it, which seemed to help.

The one thing I have noticed is that the suture line seems to create a little constriction compared to the rest of the penis. Not so much that the glans is turning blue. It looks a healthy normal color.
Just wondering if anyone else has had that experience?
If so, will this stretch back to normal after some time?

That constriction would subside with time. When it was well healed, I massaged that part daily, now it’s silky smooth.

Tor, we exchanged information. What you are experiencing is normal. You still have swelling. RN-OR as discussed. Depending on how tight suture were placed may contribute ( that would be good to prevent tearing during nocturnal erections.) You will be fine. You are RN( curious specifically)? Do you recognize type of suture. If purple, probably vicryl( although comes in white) Some use chromic( not as often) Normal, you will be fine. I thought I suggested keeping penis up, with tighter underwear, everyone different. It should be open to air now( my experience) Assuming you also( like me) had sleeve resection. Warm regards, continue healing. Hoping you don’t mind me checking up & offering my personal & professional advice.

Robert Martin, any input is appreciated. That’s what we’re here for. I read the report in myChart, and the surgeon used 4-0 Chromic sutures (They look dark. I’m color deficient, so black and dark purple on fine strands look the same to me). I work in the cardiac lab (coronary angiography and stents), but occasionally in our hybrid OR for TAVR procedures.
For a cath, there is generally only 1-2 sutures placed if going by leg, none if going in by wrist. In TAVR’s we make much bigger holes, sometimes a pericardial window placing the valve via the left ventricle. That get’s interesting…
Anyway, he’s feeling less irritated today. It’s been more comfortable walking around. First day back in the office. Computer work, nothing heavy.

      Return to exercise

Hi all, POD-8, feeling well, all sutures still there, slightly less swelling, no pain.
Cyclist/Competitive racer, off the bike for 8 days now. That’s the longest in about 2 years. It’s a welcome recovery time, but I do need to get back on the bike…soon. Don’t want to loose all my shape that I’ve maintained over the winter. Plus I’m starting to get texts from the team to see when I’m available to ride. No one knows about my circumcision, don’t really feel like explaining in public…
I’m sure they’re all wondering where my Strava posts are.

For those who were circumcised as adults, what has your experience been about returning to regular exercise routines?
I’m wondering if I did a light bandage to keep the stitches from rubbing against my tights?
      Any input would be appreciated.
I know most will tell me to ask my urologist. He already told me…
Waiting to hear from the rest of you. ;-)

I suspect the wound is closed by now so as long as you don’t put it under undue pressure I would have thought you’d be OK to cycle by now. I also think you’re able to decide yourself whether to wrap it with a bandage or whatever and don’t need others to advise on that here.
BTW my sutures fell off between three and five weeks, when doctors say seven to ten days I think they’re over-optimistic.
        Good luck.

      Hi Reuben, Tor, and others.

After your circucmcision, did you still have the sensation that your foreskin was still there. Like a phantom Limb? My husband does, and he was circumcised 7 months ago. He finds it quite irritating so i doing some research to see if that is normal or not. He followed-up with his urologist and the urologist said he’d never heard of such a thing before.

I was circumcised 8 days ago, so I can’t give a realistic answer yet. What I do feel is that sensation of when I used to keep my foreskin retracted. It was slightly tight and bunched up behind my glans. Right now I think the sutures are giving me that same sensation.
Personally I don’t mind it, as long as my glans stays bare!!! Bare glans makes me happy.
I hope it goes away for your husband, or that he can somehow overcome that irritation.
I’ll know more in a few months to give a better answer.

Robert Martin, thanks for the info. I may try a short light right tomorrow with a few layers between to prevent tugging on the sutures. I can always turn around early if it’s not working.

Reuben, thanks for the input. I was really just looking for other peoples experiences with exercise, in order to make an informed decision. I know everyone heals differently and it’s totally up to me based on my healing process.

Never had a full phantom limb type sensation but it took a few weeks for the body to recognise that the sections of skin either side of the scar were now adjacent to each other. Until that happened sliding a hand over the scar felt like it was jumping between where the bits of skin would have been before being cut.

Tor & Leah. Tor do what as I stated feels comfortable. Go slow, easy until those sutures fall out. 8 days wishing you well. Sounds like healing well. I waited until sutures WERE out. As I stated, you DO NOT , want to put any tension on an absorbable suture, they are meant for short time. I think you stated Chromic ( 12-14 days~ ) depending on your healing. Please be patient. You don’t have to explain to anyone ( your choice).Leah, phantom limb pain is real( for amputees). I have never RN(not MD) heard of this. However if (rare) pudental nerve was severed, he might feel more loss than usual. I missed when( how long ago) your husband was circumcised. Cheers everyone

      Hi Ian,
When I first started doing it in my late teens, my foreskin would do the same thing. It kept popping back over the glans. To start, it was pretty uncomfortable anyway, but I persisted. Eventually, it started to stay back. I wonder if the coronal ridge of my glans started to flare a little more, the more it was exposed. It also started to get dryer and not slip over the glans so easily. It may help to be freshly out of the shower with a well cleaned shaft and glans to remove any lubrication.
Another thing I started doing was taping my foreskin back with tegaderm tape. You can purchase a whole role on amazon. I would cut 10cm sections, pull and tuck in my foreskin near the base of my shaft and put the tegaderm over it. It would look like a tight circumcision and last for several days to a week. Works better if you shave that area and are at least semi-erect. The tegaderm is clear and somewhat elastic and will “shrivel” and expand with your penis.
I was keeping it like this almost permanently just before my actual circumcision last week.
If you are new to this, it may take a while to get used to the supersensitive glans being exposed. After 20 years for me, it basically felt normal.
      Hope that helps, good luck!

Tor, I did basically the same thing retracting my foreskin for over 20 years. Mine would stay behind glans most of the time which was great. But then roll forward especially if I bent over deeply to pick up something from the floor. I could sit without it happening but the deep bend got me every time! Then I would have to “adjust” myself.
I also used tape at the base to pull it back tightly. When I finally did circumcision my penis was accustomed to having bare glans. But what an emotional release it was to finally be circumcised! My wife loved me keeping my foreskin retracted, she liked the look, but never asked me to get circumcised. She new I wanted to get it done. My journey to circumcised was a long one because of my old family doctor and what he told me. Just not a story for here now.
I’m happy you finally got circumcised and are healing well.
      Thanks for continued updates.

      Hi All
      A quick update for POD-9
I was going to skip today, but figured I’d fill you in on my exercise experiment.
The swelling has again improved a little today. The weather was so nice, I really wanted to get out and stretch my riding legs a bit on a short ride.
To prep, I did two light wraps of 2″ Kerlix around the stitches.
Over that I did two wraps of 1″ 3M Coban to hold things together. I picked an older pair of bike shorts that wasn’t as tight as my newer ones. Everything fit right and was comfortable.
The ride went surprisingly well. I almost beat my 7 year old best time on a timed 3.6 mile stretch. Missed it by 7 seconds!
I guess my winter training and a solid 10 rest days payed off in more ways than one. It was the likely the cause of much of the foreskin irritation I had been experiencing, which prompted my urology visit…the rest is history.

No rubbing, no irritation, no stitches pulled. Everything stayed in place nicely.
I removed the Coban tape before getting in the shower. The Kerlix came off after a little water had soaked to make sure it didn’t adhere to anything.

I’m not recommending this to anyone. Just sharing my experience.
Tomorrow a little longer ride. Hope you all have a good night!

Dwayne57, Tor, Reuben noticed earlier post by Dwayne57. I have never as RN-OR, nor my wife RN OR MSN , nurse educator, have never heard of any suture that dissolves 3-5 days.it depends on how many sutures, type absorbable versus non-absorbable (always saw absorbable used for circumcisions, ZSR( not in 🇺🇸. 10 days at earliest. Vicryl Rapide is fairly fast, TOR had chromic. I had chromic. Also depends on suture size( usually 3-0 chromic, Vicryl. Others mostly monofilament. Depending on individuals( all heal differently) 10 days earliest. Mine about 12 days. Tor, you know I am RN, not MD. I( personally stopped any dressing or bandage after day 2, most out 12-14 days. It depends on enzymatic breakdown etc. I stopped any ointments, letting air get to suture area. You were smart to cover & moisten before exercises. I am certain MD told you could shower by now, pat dry well. Chromic knots can get caught in gauze( exception ) if using “ scar creams/products, which were not available when I was circumcised. Follow your intuitions, please do not pick at them, if starting to break apart, I personally lightly put tension to see if broken & then take a few out. Regarding phantom limb, I did not have that experience. Good point someone made( of course nerves are cut) any surgery. It took me 6+ months for scar to shrink fill in with collagen. Sutures tracks took a bit longer( nothing is visible except a very thin brown ring scar with 2 tone circumcision. Trying to help, offer my knowledge & experience. Never heard any suture out 3-5 days, unless something new, & wife current. To answer all, we both were pleased, scar for me is very sensitive, years later. Regards to all no disrespect ever intended. Cheers

I did a much longer ride yesterday, 3hrs, 51 miles, same procedure with Kerlix and Coban.
No issues. I actually took the Kerlix off in the shower after it got a little wet, like you said, so the sutures wouldn’t cling/get caught.
Dressing has been off since day 2. I’m only lightly wrapping it for riding so there is a barrier between penis/sutures and bike tights. Working well so far.
Showering since day 2 as well. Can’t tell, but seems like most/all sutures are still there, but definitely lighter in color.
Anyway, that’s my update. Thanks for your helpful info as well.
      Take care!

      Matt,
Thanks, I think it’s 1cm all the way around. Hard to tell since there’s still a bit of swelling, more so underneath. I wouldn’t have minded slightly more, even on the underside. But I’m pretty ok with what he took off, as long as the glans is bare and most of the foreskin is gone. Looks like he removed some of the frenulum as I asked him to.
Hmmm, I’ll see what the follow-up nurse will rate it. Too bad the two OR nurses won’t be around to rate it…

      POD-12 Upaate

I was going to wait until the 2 week “anniversary,” but since Robert Martin asked on a different post, here goes.
Healing continues pretty well. After my ride today, in the shower, I think some of the stitches finally came out. They all seem to be changing color a bit and some are just loose fragments. Most are still there though.
It’s still quite puffy in the frenular area. Someone on a different post had mentioned EuroCirc, which I checked out. Since I also speak German, I was able to navigate pretty easily and found the topic of Lymphedema. Sounds like this is pretty common and can be treated or helped along with light compression.

Has anyone else here experienced Lymphedema?

As I’ve been using a lightly compressed bandage while on my ride to reduce risk of rubbing/chaffing, it’s been doing double-duty. When I take the bandage off in the shower I notice the swelling is significantly reduced. Looking pretty good.
It does come back after a few hours without bandage.
Another cool thing I noticed today…the glans/corona outline through two layers of clothes!
Can’t help but like that. Even with my former foreskin retracted, it never looked that pronounced.
      Good evening to all.

1cm all round sounds very neat Tor. mine left 1/3 inner skin with a high scar line – with more inner skin remaining on the underside probably due to the mogen clamp being applied at a particular angle, and yes i remember having very a puffy inner skin section for weeks after.

I didn’t know it was called Lymphedema, so I’ve learned something new.

It will completely settle down eventually, even high cuts like mine settled / flattened out eventually, so you’ll be just fine.

TOR,Matt, thank you for acknowledging me, I have truly tried to help you TOR, I ( not MD as you know, but RN-OR , sub-specialties ( Urology in OR, many more. Lymphedema is usually in legs. Never heard of in penis. We all get swollen after any surgery, tissue reaction, vessels cauterized, etc. We all certainly get swollen after adult circumcision. Penis is hanging, which is why many gently tape upwards or wear tighter shorts for a bit. Everyone is different, and depends how much foreskin removed. Really glad chromic is dissolving, it will fall out in shower. We all want them out, let them fall out. Glad you are circumcised member, glans yes for me, was pronounced, very sensitive, you seem happy, that’s what matters. Matt, without going back, I think you stated mogen clamp used. Wish I could count how many I assisted in. Hospital was for all religions, but primarily Jewish, and Mogen was most MDs instrument for circumcision then, Obviously all my Jewish friends circumcised ( usually day 8)all mogen( used by Rabbi’s as well. It does make( depending on MD & placeage a nice circumcision result. Did only few Gomco, nice results, many parts, correct sizing etc. Matt sounds like high cut which is nice. Wishing TOR well, i appreciate your response as I have tried to follow and help. Did so many child/adolescents/adult circumcisions, wish I counted them all. Most were sleeve resections. Thank you for sharing, it what’s make this a “ safe “ site for forum for those recently circumcised, those seeking information, & our experiences after our adult circumcision ( or questions about their infant circumcision. TOR, went back, gave me a smile, asking nurses ( as you are) to rate it. Ask women/men, 1 cm is nice circumcision, fact check me, lymphedema refers to. Lower extremities, something congenital ( rare) but not due to from circumcision ( if I am wrong) please inform me. It’s is tissue swelling, normal reaction from any surgery. Gosh my (L) hand extremely swollen from CMC ARTHROPLASTY. Remember penis is hanging usually in dependent position, swelling varies greatly from each individual, some take a bit longer to diminish. One that is done, scar will continue to heal 6-8 months, sometimes fully a year as collagen forms, scar shrinkage and strengthening, usually leaving a thin(depending on skin tone) brown ring. One can usually tell by scar ( not always ) if circumcised as adult. As my British brothers say-cheers

Yes, my circumcision in my late teens was done by a Jewish Mohel here in the UK. He said he’d be kind which i took to mean he’d not take too much off. I think what he actually meant was he’d leave me plenty of inner skin because I’m quite tight when erect with a perfectly straight scar that’s quite a way up the shaft underneath.
Some circumcisions have a nice modest, retracted foreskin look to them but mine is very obviously circumcised. The sort of look that would beg the question “are you Jewish?”.
I’m not Jewish, but my penis most definitely is!

      Hi RM,
I did some more searching. I was actually on a teleconference that I host each month for Cardiology Mortality in our hospital when I read your note. I had to be careful not to get the disciplines crossed…As the docs were hashing out their complication cases, I was searching penile lymphedema, and listening in if they needed anything. LOL
Anyway, I couldn’t find anything that specifically spoke of lymphedema in conjunction with circumcision. And you are right, it is most commonly noted in the lower extremeties.
However, by definition it can happen in any soft tissue with lymph vessels.
Check out the Cleveland Clinic site:
      https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/15994-genital-lymphedema
      Which states:
…”Secondary: This type is caused by something outside the person’s body. Causes include:
Treatment (surgery or radiation) of malignant tumors in the genital region, such as the prostate, bladder, testicles, penis, cervix, ovaries, vulva or rectum.”

I have a hunch the lymph vessels may have been slightly damaged during circumcision and swelling occurs while new vessels grow. Eventually it starts working again and it all clears.
Like you, I’m not an MD, but like to read up on things like that. Cleveland Clinic is a great reliable source. I’ve been to two cardiology conferences there.

TOR, truly thank you for update. Interesting. Certainly respect cardiac RNs.I did a deep dive, did not hit Cleveland clinic. Still never came up with any MDs, urology experts. If I had $10 for every circumcised I assisted in, well new car, $80,000+ Lol. If wrong, I respectfully stand corrected, since I try to be as accurate, up to date & transparent. It has to be rare( we all are as adults have swelling etc, similar experiences. Same area is cut, usually if sleeve to bucks fascia. Will dive deeper. Hoping chromic is falling out? And you are healing well. Remember go easy, collagen scar still forming, will tighten, shrink may leave( me) light brown ring scar. Thx again for directly responding. Offered best advice from doing so many & wound care & personal experience. Kind regards, cheers. I will check back, if ok, want to know when chromic is out. If sutures tracks, trust me, they almost always fill in over time. At present, I would keep open to air as much as possible. You are showering, turn back to shower, first time hit glans, got erection.

Yeah, it’s hard to find anything on that. I wonder if it’s just never being officially diagnosed as such, or if it even requires a diagnosis. It’s its just post-surgical swelling that will eventually go away. At any rate, the mild compression helps.
I’ve seen some after photos on other sites and have to say I’m not bruised at all. You are WAY more the expert on this subject than I am. I have total respect for that.
Are you still working in the OR? What is your job situation now.
Other than the ventral swelling and the stitches, my penis looks pretty normal.
Erections haven’t been a problem either, even though I’ve had quite a few.
A few more stitch strands came out in the shower this morning, but still mostly there.
      One day at a time.

      Robert M,
So chromic still mostly there. I guess they’ll take more than 14 days since today is day 17. Although, they look mostly yellowish/orange now.
Also the swelling, when not compressed, continues on the ventral side just behind the glans or frenulum area. I’ve been putting the gauze with Coban bandage on for several hours a day or while cycling. It looks almost normal when I take it off. Then 1-2 hours later it’s swollen again. I do want to keep it open to air as much as possible.
In your experience, how long do chromic’s take to completely go away?
      How long does swelling last?

      Update: 4 weeks post-op
I had my 4 week follow-up visit yesterday with a very fine female nurse practitioner. Everything seems to be healing pretty well and according to plan. I had a feeling she was trying to hold back on how good it looks, so as not to seem too excited and keep me at ease. The stitches are now all absorbed/gone. There is still some mild swelling all around with more moderate swelling underneath. She pressed on it, asking me if it hurt. It didn’t, but I had to take a few deep breaths for other reasons…he behaved himself.
She did happen to call it lymphedema as is expected after surgery and part of the healing process. I’ve continued with my Kerlex/Coban mild compression dressing for a few hours a day, and on my bike rides.
Training is ramping up and going well, penis is no issue at all. It feels very normal to be circumcised. Then again, I had kept retracted for much of the last 20 years.
I have the all-clear for sex, she says “go crazy!” Although, I’m still a little hesitant as the underside is still swollen and a little tender. Erections don’t hurt though.
At the end, she wanted to see me back in 4 weeks to make sure the swelling had gone away, or just keep an eye on it myself and call if it got worse. In retrospect, I wonder if she needed or wanted to check it again.
Since it’s starting to settle down, it’s becoming clearer that I’m moderately tight (still a little play in shaft skin), but not touching the corona, which I’m really happy about. I love the outline it leaves in boxers and even some pants. The scar line is fairly low. I would have preferred a little more inner skin left, but it is what it is. Looks pretty clean cut.

That’s the current update. Feel free to ask addition questions if I didn’t cover it all.

        @Tor

        I have two questions:

What kind of compression dressing do you use exactly? Is there a picture of this product somewhere and how do you apply it?

How intense, how long and how often do you cycle? Do you wear skintight cycling clothes? How does the Pernis feel now?

it’s never acceptable to mutilate the genitals of a child. Ever.
If an adult wants to damage their own body that’s their own right to do so.

That’s begging the question. Parents are going to make all sorts of decisions for children that lead to a variety of outcomes, in fact a core idea of parenting is using your accumulated knowledge for your kid’s benefit. In many cases, this leads them to get their kids circumcised. I can definitely accept that there are those who feel bad about having that decision made for them, but “leaving it to the kid” is arguably an abdication and not necessarily as ‘reversible’ as you might think, adult circumcision is more complicated than on a newborn and outcomes are more variable.

That said, the focus of the forum is on elective adult circumcision, with a sideline on medical reasons and outcomes. The admin is pretty keen on this not being a place for discussion on circumcision of kids- as you note, it raises questions of autonomy and consent but those aren’t on-topic.

        I agree.
I needed a circumcision for medical reasons as a child and my parents did everything they could to help me overcome my phimosis, telling me to gently pull it back a little bit more in the hot bath, but I couldn’t expose anything more than the pee hole.
Two circumcisions were arranged with my GP while I was under 10 years old but I went mental on the days it was time to have it done and wouldn’t go through with it – something I truly came to regret as I got older and my foreskin wouldn’t retract and to add insult to injury, I saw more and more of my friends around me sporting smart looking circumcised cocks by the time i left school. This made me jealous and made me feel like a coward.
I eventually got it done at a clinic when i was 18. It wasn’t too bad to be honest. The week after the painless procedure, my cock was more achy than tender, but after a couple weeks I was fully mobile, no pain. It took a month to heal.
It was my choice to make when the time was right and I was ready. A rite of passage I shall never forget and cured me of my cowardice.

Correction, I was 17, not 18. Just before my 18th birthday. My friends mum had to sign a consent form acting as guardian so the doctor could perform it!

After thinking about it for the past couple of years, my fiancée’s younger brother was finally circumcised at few days ago at the age of 24. He is also a very good friend and gym partner (but will be away from the gym for a couple more weeks). My congratulations to him; his recovery seems to be going very well so far.
